Winter Basin
A quick watercolor view of Southport's yacht basin on an overcast day. The salt marshes are in their warm golden hues and the sky reflects the somber mood of the day. I enjoy painting these quick studies before attempting a larger, more detailed and time consuming painting. Oftentimes, I am content with the study and simply choose to leave well enough alone.

A Moment in Red River
While touring the mountains above Taos, NM this serene setting caught my eye. High in the mountains the seasons were strugling to make a transition from Winter to early Spring. Not shown, but there was abundant wildlife in the area, elk, deer and long horn sheep. Wonderful day and memories.

Thank you for your comments and encouragement. I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season

I’ll be ordering this tomorrow with the barn print. My wallet is outside in my car in a foot of snow. I love your work. It touches my soul!

This reminds me of the shrimp boats that were docked at Shallotte Point when I was a little girl, and I played on them all of the time,

That is beautiful.

Yes, great picture!

Love it!!!

Beautiful Roger!

Tatum Watercolors

A Moment in Southport
This is quick painting of my daughter and grandchildren walking on a wet dockside street. One of the many attributes of watercolors is that the medium allows an artist to capture a moment without spending an exorbitant amount of time. It is often these quick and spontaneous sketches that are more exciting than those heavily labored over. The crisp application of pigments with confident strokes that show the hand of the artist are often more effective.
